FIS AWARDS-LW

We are delighted to announce winning “Gold” in the Drywall Construction category, at the first FIS Awards event in Scotland .

The inaugural event was held at the George Hotel in Edinburgh on the 9th September 2016 and was introduced by the FIS to demonstrate the quality of work and the range of projects that are carried out in Scotland by contractor members.

Each nomination was visited in person by two judges appointed by the FIS, where as well as judging the quality of workmanship on each project, technical merit, complexity and accepted good practice where also taken into consideration.

After the event our Managing Director Brian Hendry commented, “I am delighted for all the team on this project who worked extremely hard to ensure we delivered a high quality finish with equally high acoustic requirements. This was a collaboration of effort from Grant the architect, Gordon at Thomas Johnstone, Bruce’s technical expertise at SiG and delivered to the highest quality by John my supervisor on site. It is a good feeling to get recognised for the effort we all put in on this project.”

CASE STUDY…..

Project Name – Dunedin House, Ravelston Terrace, Edinburgh

Architect -Yeoman McAllister, Edinburgh

Main Contractor – Thomas Johnstone Limited, Inchinnan, Renfrewshire

Completion Date – November 2015

Manufacturer – Speedline Metal & Knauf Boards

Dunedin House is a development of thirty-two apartments located in Ravelston, one of Edinburgh’s most desirable residential areas, within close proximity to the West End of Edinburgh and Stockbridge. The development consists of twenty-six 2 bedroom apartments and six 2 and 3 bedroom penthouses.

The scope of works consisted of the supply and installation of metal stud partitioning, wall linings and plasterboard ceilings. The refurbishment and conversion of the existing building was carried out by Main Contractor Thomas Johnstone Ltd.

This was a complex, technical project, subject to strict fire and high level acoustic ratings and involved twin frame construction party walls and shaftwall to the service risers.

As we like to recommend to all our clients, we were involved at the early stage of this project where in conjunction with SiG we agreed a specification package to meet the architects performance requirements and within the main contractors cost budget. As well as assisting with technical information, bespoke drawings on site specific detailing, SiG regularly visited the site to inspect our installation works, to ensure the highest level of workmanship was maintained and that the products were being installed in accordance with the manufacturers requirements.

Nearing the completion of the project all acoustic tests were passed, with both the client and the owner delighted with the high standard of the quality of our finished works.
